The McLean Family

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to let you all know how beautifully everything went with the burial of Mom and Dad. Outside of a rain downpour right as we were beginning the service (we said this was Dad's way of getting everyones attention) it went very well. The basket of flowers was incredible and the roses were just perfect. We took the basket of flowers to the restaurant and then gave them to Brian & Heather to decorate their dining room table. We had a bagpiper that played in the background which was wonderful and Captain Frank Merlo the band director of the Governor Generals Horsegueards was there in full uniform along with a bugler. Archie and Claire Lamont were there as well. Archie was dad's lifelong friend who took Mom and Dads wedding picture. Archie is not well and it was quite an effort for him to even come.  Aunt Ruth had planned to come but was not able to make it because there was a bus strike going on. Also in attendance Brian & Heather Williams, their children, Steven and Stefani and their kids, Karen Edwards and her children, Michael and Michelle and their kids, Brenda's boy Michael. Bill & Trish Sparks and their son Liam. All in all about 20 to 25 people. Our mother would have been so pleased as most of the people were from her side of the family. I read a eulogy and Capt Merlo made some nice closing comments and then the bugler played the Last Post and Reveillie and then the roses were placed on the grave at the end. We then headed to the Boardwalk(A Pub down by Lake Ontario) to have drinks and do toasts and then we all headed to Sisters for a fantastic meal. Our hosts, Brian & Heather treated us all like royalty and Sandi & Patty Moore also were very gracious to Flora and Chris. Sunday, we were fortunate to get out to play a game of golf. Brian, Rick, Flora and Chris and myself played Deer Creek Golf Club out in Ajax a beautiful track and very enjoyable. I also was able to hand deliver Dad's Memorial Video to the Canadian relatives and Rick and Flora. I plan to mail the others out as soon as possible. We took many pictures and Barbara videotaped the service and as soon as she gets it edited I will email you the pictures and the video. I know Mom and Dad would have been proud and pleased with the service. I am so glad that we were able to honor them in this way. Thank you all for what you did to help make this happen.
Love to you all,
Bob

I have been fortunate over the last several years to be able to make at least four trips down with my daughter Mareeca to visit Grandpa George. We packed up my car, and started a road trip from Longview, WA which is about five hours from Ashland, OR, where we would make a pit stop and stay with Aunt Flora (which she was so gracious to let us stay with her), on the trip down. We would then proceed again another five to six hours to stay with my mom in Shingle Springs, CA. On the trip back again, Flora would let us stay once again with her in Ashland, OR, and then we would head home. We weathered those several trips so we could spend some time and so Mareeca could get to know Great Grandpa George a little better. These memories will be cherished by Mareeca and I forever. This is a picture of Grandpa, Mareeca and I on Grandma's bench in the Cameron Lake Park on one of those special trips. Grandpa will never be forgotten.....

Sorry ahead of time to all the cousins, here's a picture of us all with Grandpa and Grandma at the 50th Wedding Anniversary Party in February 1991. It was a wonderful get together and both he and Grandma will be greatly missed by us all......

Grandpa George was always like a father to me, as when my father was serving in the marines and would serve overseas, we would stay with him during those times, this is a picture of me and him when I came home from the hospital. He also used to have a hard time sleeping, and during those first few months when I was born, he would get me and walk up and down the halls with me during the night. We also stayed with him for about four years after my parents divorced in 1976. I remember he would come home early from work, and myself and my little friend Michelle Sullivan would be sitting in his chair and watching his TV, he would belt out loudly "Get out of my chair!", most of the times when he did that, my little friend Michelle would flee from the house, and run home. After he kicked us out of the chair, he would proceed to give me orders, get me a Coke, get me my chocolates, etc.  One time, I convinced her to stay, and told her that Grandpa's bark was worse than his bite, and we went downstairs to play after one of the "Get out of my chair" incidents. I had a plan on how to get back at him for it, and took one of my hard plastic Fisher Price brand little people, climbed to the top of the stairs where we had a clear view of the back of his bald head while he sat in his chair, and I proceeded to throw the hard plastic little person at the back of his head, and was a successful shot. My little friend Michelle and I then hurriedly ran down the stairs and back into the downstairs bedroom and pretended that nothing had happened. He came down and had the hard plastic little person in his hand, and said with a loud voice "Are you missing something?", we said no and pretended that we weren't sure how it hit the back of his head and ended up upstairs. He just chuckled, and didn't get angry with us...
